The sacrum serves as a site for many muscles and ligament attachments as well as houses the nerves that supply the pelvis. It is mobile however when it becomes immobile or hypermobile it may rest in an unfavorable position, hence not in a neutral optimal functioning position. When this occurs pain can be debilitating limiting a person’s ability to walk, sit, and move positions and pain even with turning in bed or dressing. A very skilled therapist will problem solve to determine the position of the sacrum and provide a correction through skilled manual techniques. Education will be provided on how to self-correct and site-specific exercises will provide stability to this area to avoid re-injury. In some cases, a special belt will be suggested to provide stability.
