What is Post Surgical – (Abdominal, Rectal Or Colon Surgery)

Typically after abdominal surgery whether involving the colon, rectum, liver, kidneys, reproductive organs, gall bladder or appendix adhesions may develop. These adhesions are bands of scar tissue that form between the abdominal organs mainly the small intestine. Abdominal surgery will cause your tissue to stick together when it is supposed to move freely. Symptoms of abdominal adhesions may be significant pain to your abdomen or to your low back, abdominal bloating, nausea, and a disturbance in your bowel movements. Adhesions may prevent certain abdominal and pelvic organs from working appropriately, intestinal blockages, or even bowel obstructions. Scar tissue can develop after surgery but even years later. Pelvic Health Physical therapy utilizes specialized massage techniques to mobilize scar tissue and surrounding fascia. It helps restore blood flow and mobility to allow organs to function better and decrease any pain or dysfunction. Different modalities may be used such as cupping and taping, ultrasound, dry needling as well as stretching and massage to regain more normal tissue. No matter how long it has been since the surgery or injury, pelvic health therapy will restore tissue and motion.
